Minnesota stopped a four-game skid and moved within one-half game of Texas for the final AL wild card, tied with AL Central rival Cleveland.

Back home, in Indiana,

The rallies that stirred up so much discussion during their most recent road trip were virtually non-existent. The boos they heard repeatedly last week turned into resounding cheers. Even the opposition to Cunningham’s stance about keeping transgender women out of women’s sports had mostly abated temporarily.

On a day nearly half of the 12-member U.S. FIBA Women’s World Cup team took the court in Indianapolis, Fever coach Stephanie White and Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon managed to talk about the matchups between two of the WNBA’s top teams.

It wasn’t just players who were ready to move on from the controversy, even if it only stops briefly in Indianapolis.

“It’s about time. I do want to get back to basketball,” said 24-year-old Carmen Edmainiston, a longtime Fever fan.

Thursday’s game was another marquee matchup between perhaps the defending champion Aces and the most visible and televised team in the league. They met in last year’s WNBA semifinals and twice earlier this season, with the Fever winning each game by more than 15 points on the road.

Las Vegas won this one , courtesy of Chelsea Gray’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer to force overtime after Caitlin Clark missed two free throws with seven seconds left and Gray’s buzzer-beating winner in overtime after one of Clark’s eight turnovers. The game was marred by a fan incident that resulted in two men being escorted out of the arena in the third quarter.

The Fever issued a statement saying a fan was removed from the arena and elected not to return after it was determined he had not violated the fan conduct policy.

While it had all the trappings of home cooking — a sellout crowd decked out mostly in Fever red, a street vendor selling a T-shirt with a shot of pointing with the phrase “Sophie Point God” and, of course, the loud roars during Indiana’s player introductions — there also were reminders this was about more than just basketball.

The lone protester outside Gainbridge Fieldhouse made his argument in support of Cunningham’s position with a bullhorn. Inside, the signs carried messages such as “I want to play like Sophie” and “Thank you for standing up for girls, Sophie!”

That wasn’t the reception Cunningham got on last week’s road trip to Seattle, Portland and Minnesota, where coach Cheryl Reeve wore a T-shirt during Sunday’s game with the message “Trans kids belong.” The Fever are expected to be greeted with another rally when they travel to Chicago on Saturday.

Cunningham has not backed off her stance despite the criticism.

“I was asked a question and that’s simply what it was. I wasn’t trying to make a statement. I was trying to clear the air, and I did that, back in February, so it is what it is,” she said Wednesday at practice. “We’re in the middle of the season, so I’m going to keep it at that. Our team is good, my teammates are good, our locker room is great.”

Cunningham’s position is merely the latest episode in a Fever season filled with drama.

While Clark and Angel Reese each have seven technical fouls, the most in the league and one short of an automatic one-game suspension, Clark also has been involved in a sideline spat with White. And, some of the contact she has incurred this season has stirred a debate that has reached the U.S. Congress over whether she’s being unfairly targeted.

Following a rare three-day break away from her usual media duties, Clark weighed in when asked during a pregame news conference how she has dealt with life inside of a bubble where her every move and word is scrutinized.

“I think first and foremost, you speak when you feel like you want to speak,” she said. “I’ve been in this position for what, five years now, four years, and I think I have a good feel of what’s going to be asked, what’s not going to be asked, how to approach each situation and I try to just show up and be myself every single day, and I hope fans can feel like they can connect with me in that way.”

After the Rams held their final practice of camp Thursday, McVay said with the team went well at their regular training complex in Woodland Hills on Wednesday.

“He looked great, and he’s still continuing to go through his process,” McVay said. “No new news on that front. … We’ve had a plan in place for a while, and the workout was one of those things. (Calling it an official workout) was kind of semantical to be able to use the equipment and things like that under the (rules) of the CBA. He’s very deliberate and intentional about what this looks like. I’m careful to say things are going in the right direction. He’s feeling good, but we’re not to where we’re able to say he is or isn’t ready to do it. But he’s doing great, and he looked outstanding, as I think all of us would expect.”

McVay reiterated that the Rams will wait indefinitely for Donald’s decision on . McVay also wouldn’t speculate on whether Donald would entertain the notion of returning to the Rams later in the regular season.

“He has earned the right to be able to say how he feels,” McVay said. “I saw (video of) the workout. I’ve been seeing the things that he’s been doing. He and I probably talk every day, so it’s one of those deals that if he wants to do it, we’d be excited about the possibility. And I think it’s really important to acknowledge that if he doesn’t, this guy gave this organization everything he had for 10 years. So if he is going to do it, he’s going to do it the right way.”

Donald only began to entertain the notion of a comeback in early June after the Rams traded for , and he has been working to get in football shape for several weeks. He has worked out at the Rams’ complex and at home while the team went through the past two weeks of training camp, which formally ends Friday.

Clark missed two free throws with seven seconds left in regulation and Indiana up by three, then lost the ball with seven seconds to go in overtime and the Fever a point ahead. Clark had 20 points and eight assists along with eight turnovers.

A’ja Wialson had 26 points, 13 rebounds and the key defensive stop against Clark that set up Gray’s winner. Jackie Young added 22 points, including a franchise-record 15 in a row to close the first half and open the second. hitting three 3s.

Las Vegas overcame a 20-point first-half deficit, a three-point deficit at the end of regulation and a two-point deficit at the end of overtime to salvage a win in the three-game season series.

Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 28 points, but missed a late free throw in regulation before Clark’s misses. Aliyah Boston added 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Las Vegas erased its big deficit by closing the first half on a 15-0 run to cut a 42-22 deficit to 42-37. Young scored the final 13 points of the half, the first basket of the second half and five of the first seven points in the second half to give the Aces a 44-42 lead.

Indiana finally found its shooting touch midway through the fourth quarter.

It rallied from a 64-55 deficit with 6:16 left and led 75-72 when Gray hit the first of her two buzzer-beaters. Gray did it again in overtime knocking down a shot to erase an 86-84 deficit. Both plays withstood replay reviews.

The game was stopped for several minutes with 4:38 left in the third quarter when security escorted a woman, who was sitting in the front row directly across from the Aces bench, out through a tunnel. A few minutes later, she assisted back to her seat and two men who were seated near her were taken out.

The Fever issued a statement that said one fan was removed then elected not to return when it was determined the fan conduct policy had not been violated. Young told reporters someone had been “chirping” all night and at that point, she thought he had crossed the line. Young declined to elaborate on what was said.

Wade Meckler singled on a ground ball in the third inning that was overthrown by Orioles starting pitcher Brandon Young at first, advancing him to second. Nolan Schanuel was then walked to set up Neto’s 411-foot homer that went over the center field wall.

Schanuel hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh for Meckler to score the fourth run of the game.

Angels pitcher Mitch Farris (1-3) entered the game in the fifth inning in relief of starter Ryan Johnson. Farris pitched one inning, struck out two and walked one. Johnson pitched the first 4 2/3, where he walked five and struck out one. He allowed three hits and one earned run. Samy Natera Jr. earned his second save after striking out two in the final 1 1/3 innings.

Yohel Pozo hit a solo home run in the third for the only run for the Orioles. It was his first in an Oriole uniform since coming to Baltimore after getting claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals in July.

REDS 6, ATHLETICS 5

CINCINNATI (AP) — Elly De La Cruz hit his fourth career leadoff home run — one of four homers by Cincinnati — and the Reds beat the Athletics to complete a three-game sweep.

The Reds (56-58) improved to 13-6 since the All-Star break. The A’s (45-70) have lost eight straight games and 12 straight series.

Brian Serven hit a two-run homer off Brock Burke to get the A’s within a run in the ninth. It was Serven’s second homer. Burke retired the next two batters for his second save.

De La Cruz led off the game with his 19th home run of the season off A’s left-hander Mason Barnett.

Barnett (1-2) made his second straight start after 14 relief appearances. He allowed five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings with three walks and seven strikeouts.

METS 13, GURDIANS 6

CLEVELAND (AP) — All-Star Foster Griffin struggled in his first start for free-falling Cleveland, allowing five runs in four innings of a loss to the Mets that gave last-place New York a three-game sweep.

Cleveland (57-59) has lost 11 of 14 and fell one-half game behind Texas in the race for the final AL wild card.

at the trade deadline, Griffin (12-4) allowed homers to Marcus Semien and Luis Torrens in the second inning, the latter a two-run shot that put the Mets ahead 3-2.

The left-hander gave up two more runs in the third, including an RBI triple by Carson Benge, and was lifted after working out of trouble in the fourth.

Francisco Lindor also homered for New York, a three-run shot in the seventh off Craig Yoho. Benge, Semien and Luis Robert Jr. each had three hits, and Torrens drove in three runs.

The Guardians got within 6-5 in the fifth on Nathaniel Lowe’s three-run homer off Nolan McLean (8-7), who stranded two runners to get out of the inning and qualify for the win.

It was the third series sweep for the Mets this season and first on the road.

BREWERS 5, PIRATES 2

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Dustin May won his Milwaukee debut and Jackson Chourio and Gary Sánchez hit home runs as the Brewers defeated Pittsburgh.

After losing the opener, the Brewers (72-43) won the final three games in the series.

May (6-7), acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals in a trade deadline deal on Monday, turned in a quality start, giving up two runs and three hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out five in the 97-pitch outing.

The Brewers jumped out early on Chourio’s 15th homer of the season, a solo shot off Braxton Ashcraft (11-5) with one out in the first.

Brandon Lowe’s lead-off homer in the fourth, the first hit surrendered by May, put the Pirates on the board. Spencer Horwitz’s run-scoring single later in the inning tied it.

Milwaukee regained the lead in the fifth. SĂĄnchez hit a solo homer and Brice Turang had a run-scoring single following a double from Pratt.

The Brewers extended the lead to 5-2 in the sixth when Garrett Mitchell snapped a 0-for-18 streak with a leadoff double and scored on Andrew Vaughn’s single.

DL Hall, Aaron Ashby and Chad Patrick, who notched his fifth save, combined to pitch three scoreless innings to close it out.

CUBS 3, BLUE JAYS 2, 11 INNINGS

CHICAGO (AP) — Pete Crow-Armstrong scored on a throwing error in the 11th inning after Alex Bregman hit a two-strike, two-out homer in the ninth, and Chicago rallied for a win over Toronto.

Crow-Armstrong singled leading off the 11th against Brendon Little (0-3), but automatic runner Carson Kelly was thrown out at the plate. then tried to steal third and Blue Jays catcher Brandon Valenzuela overthrew third baseman Josh Smith, allowing Crow-Armstrong to dash home. He took off his helmet before touching the plate and then tossed it into the protective netting before he was mobbed by teammates.

It was the 11th walk-off win this season for Chicago, which is in position for the first NL wild card.

SEATTLE (AP) — Dillon Dingler homered for the third straight game and finished with three hits and three RBIs as Detroit defeated Seattle.

Detroit (56-59) won for the fifth time in six games and moved within a game of Texas in the race for the final American League wild-card spot. The Tigers have scored at least eight runs or more in seven of their last eight games.

The loss dropped Seattle (56-60) three games behind Houston in the AL West and 1 1/2 games out of the wild card. The Mariners, held scoreless for the second time in the series against Detroit, have been shut out 11 times this season, tied for most in the majors.

Framber Valdez limited the Mariners to five hits in seven innings and didn’t allow a run for the first time since June 16. He struck out five, walked two and didn’t allow a runner past second base. In his last four outings, Valdez has allowed four runs in 19 innings.

Kyle Finnegan worked the eighth inning and Brenan Hanifee worked the ninth and closed out the shutout.

PHILLIES 7, NATIONALS 3

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Cristopher Sanchez became the first 15-game winner in the majors this season, Bryson Stott had two of Philadelphia’s eight doubles and the Phillies beat Washington for their fifth victory in six games.

Sanchez (15-4) allowed two runs on six hits in five innings for his fifth consecutive victory.

Nationals starter Miles Mikolas (3-9) gave up six runs on 12 hits in five innings. On Wednesday night as a pinch hitter in the 11th inning in the Nationals’ 10-4 victory, he put down an RBI squeeze bunt for a base hit in his first at-bat since 2021.

Consecutive RBI doubles by Phillies newcomer Luis Arraez and Alec Bohm forged a 2-0 lead in the first. Justin Crawford plated J.T. Realmuto with a second-inning single, then Bryce Harper, Brandon Marsh and Stott doubled in a three-run third to make it 6-1. The Phillies had 16 hits.

Nationals left fielder Andrew Pinckney had a solo home run in the fourth for his first career hit.

Federal prosecutors said Thursday that they arrested Ángel Aguirre, Guerrero’s former governor, on accusations of “concealing evidence to determine the whereabouts of the students” of the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers’ College.

The former governor, belonging to a party that gave rise to Mexico’s ruling Morena party, is the highest-profile arrest in the case to date since the detention of who is facing criminal charges of forced disappearance, obstruction of justice and torture. Aguirre governed Guerrero from 2011 until he resigned in October 2014, one month after the students disappeared.

The disappearance of the students from the rural teacher’s college of Ayotzinapa after they commandeered several buses on their way to a protest shocked Mexico and the international community, and as the truth of the case continues to

According to Mexican authorities, a cartel in Guerrero state’s city of Iguala attacked the students in collusion with security forces as well as local, state and federal authorities, including the military. Officials were presumably involved by taking part in the crime or concealing it.

Ernestina Godoy, the Attorney General of Mexico, stated that two testimonies gathered this year indicate that Aguirre not only requested that officials hand over the security camera footage from one of the locations of the attack that night but also ordered the destruction of any evidence related to the events.

“The Attorney General’s Office has evidence proving that this order to conceal the evidence was issued directly by the then-governor, with the participation of high-level state officials,” she said.

“Far from being an isolated act or a technical oversight, the concealment of the recordings was the result of a malicious operation, deliberately orchestrated from the highest levels of the State Executive Branch.”

Godoy did not explain why the testimonies of a collaborator and a protected witness, collected in January and May 2016 respectively, were obtained more than a decade after the events. She only indicated that when she arrived at the Attorney General’s Office at the end of last year, she began a “reanalysis” of the case with a “new investigative approach.”

Hours later, the Agustín Pro Juárez Human Rights Center, which represents the families, stated in a social media post that neither the students’ parents nor their attorneys had been notified of the arrest and that they were unaware of the charges. “If it is solid and in accordance with the law, the process that is beginning could help settle a debt of justice for the families,” the center said.

The current federal administration had committed to inform parents first of any developments, a key demand from families for years.

Clemente Rodríguez, the father of one of the students, recalled that from the beginning families asked for Aguirre to be investigated. “He has to tell everything he knows,” he told The Associated Press.

After three administrations, dozens of arrests and an investigation plagued by irregularities, key questions remain unanswered. Authorities believe the students were killed, but only bone fragments from three of them have been found, and the motive for the attack remains unclear, although it is believed to have been linked to heroin trafficking in buses to the U.S. operated by the local cartel in collusion with authorities.

On Sept. 26, 2014, students were attacked in a coordinated manner at various locations. In one instance, cameras recorded the moment when security forces stopped one of the buses outside the Palace of Justice, the seat of the courts, but initial official statements claimed that this footage did not exist. Now, the federal prosecutor’s office confirms what investigators from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) denounced years ago: that these recordings were hidden or destroyed to conceal evidence.

The administration of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who served from 2018 to 2024, described the Ayotzinapa case as a “state crime.”

During President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration, which began in October 2024, the president said that new lines of investigation were reopened, some of which, according to the prosecutor, have led to the arrest of the former governor.

Carney said Canada remained despite Trump’s comments, describing the talks as a fight to protect Canadian workers and businesses.

“This is a tough negotiation,” Carney said in French. “You can say ‘nasty.’ But this is a question of Canadian jobs. It’s a question of the future of Canadian businesses.”

Trump criticized Canada during a speech Wednesday in Las Vegas.

“Canada’s nasty. They are. They’re nasty,” Trump said. “I love the people, but they’re nasty. Nasty leadership.”

Carney said “we are in the middle of a tariff war with the Americans” but laughed when asked about Trump’s description. He said Canadian negotiators were in Washington this week and that he expected further conversations with Trump after speaking with him last week.

The United States already has tariffs on Canadian steel, aluminum and automobiles. Trump has on more Canadian goods beginning Aug. 19.

Tariffs are taxes on imports, which companies can then pass along to consumers in the form of higher prices. The president maintains that the costs created by tariffs will cause manufacturing to relocate to the U.S., though there is little evidence of that in the economic data.

Trump’s tariff threats and repeated suggestions that Canada should become the 51st U.S. state have angered many Canadians, prompting many Canadians to cancel trips to the United States.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer has argued that Canada and China are the only two countries to retaliate against Trump’s tariffs, citing restrictions on U.S. alcohol sales in some Canadian provinces among his concerns. Canadian officials say their countermeasures were a response to existing U.S. tariffs.

The latest comments followed months of escalating tensions. At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January, Carney criticized major powers for using economic coercion against smaller countries, prompting Trump to respond: “Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements.”

Canada is one of the United States’ largest trading partners, and the move threatens to push prices higher at a time when Americans are already frustrated with the high cost of living ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections.

Carney said existing U.S. tariffs on aluminum have contributed to a 58% increase in aluminum prices in the United States.

“That’s not a good situation for American companies,” Carney said.

Hatcher prevailed even though President Donald Trump gave an early endorsement to Ogles in the 5th Congressional District. Ogles’ defeat is a rare loss for Trump, who has backed mostly winners so far in this year’s GOP primaries.

Although he lacked the president’s endorsement, Hatcher was endorsed by Republican Gov. Bill Lee, under whom he had served. Hatcher campaigned as pro-Trump while emphasizing his farming background.

“Think what President Trump could do if our congressman spent less time talking and more time doing,” his campaign website said.

Ogles, a member of the conservative Freedom Caucus, has faced controversy. The FBI in 2024 as part of an investigation into his campaign finance reporting. The Justice Department recently agreed to , signaling that it was abandoning the probe, which began under the Biden administration.

The 5th District this year by Republican officials to expand beyond central Tennessee into more rural areas and part of Memphis.

Tennessee primary voters picked a pair of Memphis-area lawmakers Thursday to square off in a dramatically reconfigured U.S. House seat that is central to President Donald Trump’s plan to try to hold on to a slim Republican majority in the midterm congressional elections.

Republicans chose state Sen. Brent Taylor, who was endorsed by Trump, to be their nominee in the revamped 9th Congressional District. Democrats picked state Rep. Justin Pearson, who gained national prominence three years ago when he was expelled from the Tennessee House for protesting in support of gun control measures.

The previously compact had a majority Black population, but it was cracked apart by Republican officials this year following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that s for minorities. Republicans hope the redistricting, which is part of a broader pushed by Trump, could give them a clean sweep of all nine of Tennessee’s seats.

The new 9th District stretches about 200 miles (320 kilometers) east from Memphis across rural areas before reaching north toward Nashville. It previously favored Democrats but now tilts Republican, with 71% of voters new to the district, according to an Associated Press estimate.

Pearson noted to supporters Thursday night that it was 61 years ago to the day that the Voting Rights Act was signed. He said the Supreme Court and Tennessee lawmakers have effectively undone portions of it, leading to the redrawing of the formerly majority-Black district.

“The political dilution and degradation of our rights is happening,” Pearson said. But he added: “We’re one step closer to Washington, D.C.”

The redistricting also significantly reshaped the 5th Congressional District held by Republican Rep. Andy Ogles, who was defeated by former Tennessee Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher.

The new 5th District stretches from Ogles’ base in central Tennessee to the northwest corner of the state before snaking south along the Mississippi River to Memphis — with 82% of its voters new, according to an AP estimate.

Memphis voters voice their dismay over redistricting

For decades Memphis, the most populous city in Shelby County, formed the base of its own congressional district. Now the county is that extend outward like spokes into rural areas.

Lonzo Taylor, a retired postal worker and military veteran, said Black voters like himself have had their voices diluted.

“We only had one district in the whole state of Tennessee, and you don’t even want that to be fair? It’s just terrible,” said Taylor, 72. “I love this state, but I am very disappointed in our governor,” who called lawmakers into a special session for the redistricting.

Milla Meiman, 23, who voted early in the Democratic primary, said she did not realize the congressional map had changed until receiving a letter about it in the mail.

“It’s a drastic change to have your district sort of switched around like that,” said Meiman, who works part time at an ice cream shop and public library. Meiman added: “I think it’s a voter suppression tactic.”

Terrice Thomas, 45, an educator who votes for Democrats, had to learn a lot more about the candidates when she got switched from District 9 to District 8. She is concerned Memphis constituents could get overlooked.

“Is everybody going to have an equal say on what’s happening in their communities or even the people that you’re voting for?” Thomas said. “Are they going to really take into account the different areas and what makes us unique?”

Republican Rep. Ogles faces a GOP challenger in the 5th District

The cracking apart of Memphis sent ripples throughout the state that affected Ogles, a conservative Freedom Caucus member who sought reelection and was endorsed by Trump.

Hatcher was a former state agriculture commissioner under Republican Gov. Bill Lee, who endorsed Hatcher for Congress.

Previously centered on Nashville and central Tennessee, the district now extends to the northwest corner of the state before snaking south along the Mississippi River to Memphis. Along the way it touches the borders of Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas and Mississippi.

Ogles has faced controversy. His by the FBI in 2024 as part of an investigation into his campaign finance reporting. But the Justice Department recently agreed to , signaling that it was abandoning the probe, which began under the Biden administration.

On the Democratic side, the five-way primary featured Columbia Mayor Chaz Molder, who has continued to run in the reshaped district despite being drawn out of it.

Garrett wins Republican primary for open seat in the 6th District

Republican U.S. Rep. John Rose opted not to seek reelection in the 6th District to run for governor instead. That created a contentious primary for the Republican-leaning district, which stretches east from Nashville.

State Rep. Johnny Garrett won a Republican primary that included Rose’s recent chief of staff, former U.S. Rep. Van Hilleary, who served eight years in Congress before losing a gubernatorial bid in 2002.

Mike Croley won a five-way Democratic primary.

Republican voters pick Blackburn for governor

U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn defeated Rose in the GOP primary to succeed Republican Gov. Bill Lee, who is barred by term limits from seeking reelection. Blackburn, who won her second six-year Senate term in 2024, would have to give the seat up if elected.

Memphis City Council member Jerri Green won the Democratic gubernatorial primary.

Republicans have held the governor’s office since 2011 and won every U.S. Senate election since 1994. Sen. Bill Hagerty won the Republican primary without opposition and will face Marquita Bradshaw, who won the Democratic nomination, in November.

Voepass owner and president JosĂŠ Luiz Felicio Filho was among those formally accused in the crash that took place in the city of Vinhedo, outside Sao Paulo. Local prosecutors must still decide whether he and the other accused will be charged at a date to be determined.

Brazil’s federal police also accused 15 former and present Voepass employees of endangering air traffic safety resulting in a fatal disaster, which could put them in prison for up to 12 years. Additional charges against some of the group include the omission of technical failures from aircraft logbooks.

The crash happened Aug. 9, 2024, when an ATR 72-500 twin-engine turboprop en route from Cascavel, in the southern state of ParanĂĄ, to Guarulhos international airport plummeted 13,000 feet into the backyard of a gated condominium, killing 58 passengers and

Investigators added that the aircraft’s data recorders showed its de-icing system repeatedly failed or was manually cycled on and off during 136 flights.

Federal police investigator AndrĂŠ Ribeiro said the aircraft was irregularly cleared for departure into known severe icing conditions despite experiencing de-icing system failures on three prior flights that same day.

“This is a watershed in air crash disasters here,” said Ribeiro, who also suggested prosecutors should look into new potential accusations against Brazil’s government’s aviation agency ANAC.

Thalles Andrade, a lawyer for the families of the victims, said in a statement he will seek damages “against every one responsible, people and companies, including directors, companies involved in the operation and in ticket sales.”

“We will go for everyone who, by action or omission, contributed to this,” Andrade said.

The 16 people formally accused in the case did not make comments about the federal police move.

The federal police findings were announced in a news conference after a two-year investigation. The force concluded that deliberate omissions, improper maintenance practices, and organizational failures directly contributed to sending the aircraft into dangerous weather conditions.

Last month, a Brazilian air force probe confirmed that a combination of , as well as mechanical system failures and pilot distractions, contributed to the country’s most deadly air crash since 2007.

said Thursday in a post on Instagram that her show “honors Meredith Kercher’s memory and calls out the violence that was done to her and to me.”

The show is called “Cartwheel,” a reference to a story that claimed Knox did cartwheels in the police station after Kercher’s death. The show debuts Friday evening and is due to run for 11 straight nights at the annual mish-mash of stand-up, theater and musical offerings in the Scottish capital.

The show is being marketed as a woman “approaching forty, juggling motherhood and finally getting around to being furious about the whole wrongful-imprisonment thing. Especially when half the world is telling her to get over it, while the other half still thinks she’s guilty.”

Knox was a 20-year-old student in Perugia when Kercher was found stabbed to death on Nov. 2, 2007, in her bedroom in the apartment they shared with two Italian women.

The case made global headlines as suspicion quickly fell on Knox and her boyfriend of just days, Raffaele Sollecito. She served nearly four years in prison during the investigation, initial murder trial and when she was freed by an appeals court in Perugia. The couple were acquitted

Another man, , from the Ivory Coast, was eventually convicted of murder after his DNA was found at the crime scene. He was freed in 2021, after serving most of his 16-year sentence.

Knox returned to the United States in 2011, after being freed by the appeals court in Perugia, and has since established herself as a global campaigner for the wrongly convicted. She has a podcast with her husband and last year published a memoir titled, “Free: My Search for Meaning.”

Knox’s post follows an interview that Meredith Kercher’s sister, Stephanie Kercher, gave to the BBC during which she said the show “normalizes and trivializes violence against women.”

While insisting that Knox is “naturally free to continue with her life as she wishes,” she said “the problem with this particular project is that it is comedy.”

“It’s not about whether people think she’s guilty or innocent, if someone else was doing the show specifically against Meredith, I would still feel the same, it is obviously an added wound that it’s coming from her at the same time, but I do feel very strongly that it should be something that’s not given a platform,” she said.

An online petition calling for the show to be canceled has been launched and so far has more than 4,400 signatories. It states that the show “mocks the horrific events surrounding Meredith’s murder and aims to somehow turn this tragedy into entertainment.”

Knox said “a petition to cancel a show no one has seen, on the grounds of false accusations intended to shame and vilify a wronged woman into silence, is not an argument against Cartwheel.”

The Edinburgh Fringe, she added, “is the perfect place for a show like this.”
